Workout clothes continue to become a trend for many women who are looking to get fit and stay in shape. In fact, a recent study conducted in 2013 reported that fitness apparel sales grew by 7% while regular apparel sales only grew 1% in that same year. Women not only want to get fit, but they want to look the part as well. In an effort to do this, they are looking for functioning apparel that is appealing. Since more women are wearing workout clothes for more than just working out and donning them around town while they run errands, play with their kids, and more, it is important to make the right choices in workout wear. Here are some of the most common mistakes that women make with their workout clothes.
Improper Cleaning of Your Workout Clothes
Fitness apparel is often made of different fabrics than you would find in your everyday wardrobe. When you wash your fitness clothes with the rest of your laundry, you run the risk of ruining the clothing's performance. Little by little you break down the fabric and cause issues when you wear it to work out in. Additionally, piling them up and storing them in your gym bag is also going to ruin them. Instead, you want to separate it as soon as you get home. If you have the chance, throw your gym clothes in the wash as soon as you get home. You will want to wash them on cold or hand wash them to help prolong the life of them. You want to avoid using fabric softeners as these can end up clogging the fibers. To get your fitness clothes dry, you can either hang them up or tumble dry them on low.
Not Getting the Right Support
Sport bras are a key component of a great workout attire. Not all sport bras are created equal. It is important to find the sports bra that works for your body type and the activity you are getting ready to embark on. For example, if you plan on doing yoga, you are going to want something lightweight to wear, whereas if you plan on going to spinning class, you want a sports bra that is sweat resistant and offers ventilation.
Wearing Restrictive Clothing
In an effort to get the best workout possible, you want to make sure you are wearing the right clothes. There is no place for thongs in the gym. It is understandable that many women don't want their panty line showing when they workout, but it could have bad consequences if you end up with thongs on instead of full coverage underwear. Wearing thongs as you stay active can cause irritation and bacteria. This can end up taking you out of the fitness arena as you heal.
